ISCC EU certification

Commit to sustainability and market access with the ISCC EU certificate

ISCC EU certification is becoming increasingly important in biomass production and processing, where the need for verifiably sustainable operations continues to grow. With ISCC EU certification, you demonstrate that your supply chain meets strict European sustainability requirements and is future-proof for upcoming market and regulatory demands. DEKRA supports you with audits, preparation, and full certification guidance to help you meet the standard quickly and efficiently. Here, you can learn what ISCC EU entails and how it can benefit your organization.

What is ISCC EU certification?

The European Union established the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC EU) because the need for verifiably sustainable operations is increasing. This standard aims to minimize harmful environmental impacts and also considers social aspects to promote comprehensive sustainable development. The ISCC EU certificate focuses on compliance with EU directives, particularly the European Renewable Energy Directive (RED II).

What are the benefits of ISCC EU certification?

  • ISCC EU certification supports compliance with EU sustainability legislation.
  • ISCC EU helps you gain access to green financing and markets focused on sustainability.
  • Demonstrates your commitment to renewable energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • ISCC EU helps strengthen your corporate reputation and brand image.

Your ISCC EU certification at a glance

Our ISCC EU certification is designed for companies active in a wide range of sectors. This includes organizations involved in biomass, waste, residues, non-biological sources of renewable energy, and the processing of recycled materials into new products. Examples include agricultural enterprises, agricultural traders, operators of oil and sugar mills, biodiesel and ethanol extraction facilities, and biofuel traders.
Our highly qualified, international auditors are available to conduct a thorough audit on short notice. This audit ultimately ensures compliance with ISCC EU guidelines, after which you will receive the ISCC EU certificate.
The result: an insightful audit report that provides you with the tools for ISCC EU certification. In the broader sense, it also leads to a transparent and sustainable value chain that makes responsible use of natural resources.

The ISCC EU certification process

1. Selection of the certification body and registration
The ISCC EU certification process begins with the signing of a certification agreement with the chosen certification body. This agreement outlines the duration and content of the certification process. Your organization is then registered with ISCC.

By 2024, ISCC has issued more than 57,000 certificates. Certified organizations operate in over 140 countries across various sectors. These organizations include farms, plantations, primary collection points for raw agricultural materials, waste and residue sources and collection points, and processing facilities for bio-based fuels such as biodiesel, bioethanol, and biogas. Our commitment to Power-to-X

DEKRA is actively involved in Power-to-X (PtX), an initiative that promotes the conversion of renewable energy into fuels, gases, and other products. This process is based on green hydrogen and contributes to the transition to carbon-neutral energy sources and the achievement of ambitious goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in various sectors. ISCC has developed a special approach for the certification of Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (ISCC RFNBOs). This approach has been submitted for approval by the European Commission. Once approved, it will be possible to have RFNBOs certified by ISCC in the European Union.
