This is how you arrange the transition

Chances are you are already familiar with the Safety Culture Ladder. If not: the SCL is an instrument to measure safety awareness, attitude, and behavior in companies. Since September 1, 2023, the new version of this important measurement tool has been available. The SCL 2.0 contains a better description of the different steps. Furthermore, a step has been added and the readability has been improved. DEKRA will gladly help you with the transition to the SCL 2.0 during the annual renewal audit.

The purpose of the SCL 2.0 is to limit an unsafe and unhealthy work environment, resulting in fewer incidents (absenteeism and damage). The SCL 2.0 is applicable to all sectors and thus to many types of companies. An SCL certificate is increasingly required in tenders and contracts for (inter)national suppliers. Also, since 2022 the SCL is made mandatory by Governance Code Construction. Already nearly 2,000 companies in the Netherlands are using the Safety Culture Ladder​.

How does my organization transition to SCL 2.0?

A transition period applies to the new version of the SCL. In 2024 it is still possible to be certified on both versions, from 2025 onwards (re)certification is only possible on the 2.0 version. Because SCL 2.0 is in high demand, DEKRA auditors will be happy to assist you in the transition to the new version during the renewal audit. Is your organization not yet SCL certified at all? More concise, more steps and ascending descriptions

SCL 2.0 is more concise than the first edition, as many repetitions have been removed. Another important change is that an additional step has been added, step 1. Working safely only starts at step 2, but to show the full growth process, NEN believes it is necessary to include step 1 as well. The third essential change is that ascending descriptions of the steps are now listed. This makes the differences between the steps for each subject clearer.
