Have your charging stations tested against the latest version OCPP 2.0.1

OCPP 2.0.1

The Open Charge Point Protocol for charging stations

With the rapid rise in popularity of electric vehicles (EVs), the charging infrastructure is becoming the subject of increased attention. A good charging infrastructure relies on interoperability, which ensures that EVs, charging stations and associated management systems are able to communicate with each other effectively. The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an open communication standard that makes this possible. The most recent version of this protocol is OCPP 2.0.1.; it was released in 2020.

DEKRA carries out compliance tests on your charging stations or charging station management system. Via these tests, our experts can tell you whether your charging stations are OCPP 2.0.1-compliant. Over the years, DEKRA has gained a lot of experience in the automotive industry and with electrical equipment. This makes us the ideal partner when these worlds come together. Our e-mobility tests are just one way we implement our mission: to be your partner in safety and sustainability.

Compliance test for OCPP 2.0.1

Globally, there are just three organisations that are authorised to do OCPP compliance tests for OCPP 2.0.1. DEKRA is one of these organisations. We were selected for this role by the Open Charge Alliance (OCA). OCA has developed a test and certification procedure for this purpose, which it updates continuously. Our experts adhere to this procedure strictly when performing compliance tests.
After conducting a successful OCPP 2.0.1 test, we prepare a test report with all the results. The report must be signed by you, the customer, and DEKRA. Then, this report will be sent to the OCA. They ensure that the product is included in the OCPP certification register, as complying with OCPP 2.0.1. If your charging station or charging station management system application passes the certification, this confirms its compliance and interoperability and allows you to demonstrate this to other stakeholders.

OCPP 2.0 versus 1.6

OCPP 2.0 was released in 2018. It is the successor to OCPP 1.6, which is still widely used. The new OCPP version 2.0.1 features a number of improvements:
  • added security provided by firmware updates;
  • security logs;
  • event notifications;
  • security profiles for authentication and secure communication.
OCPP 2.0 significantly increases the certainty of a secure connection. Other changes include improved transaction handling and improved charging station management. Charging stations can be monitored and it is possible to set up and change configurations. Smart charging was introduced with the release of OCPP 1.6. Functionalities have been added to OCPP 2.0.1 to improve the user’s charging experience.
