Do you want to demonstrate that your organization complies with ISO 14001? An ISO 14001 audit will determine if your organization can be certified against this standard. To be certified, your company must first request an ISO 14001 audit. An auditor will then see if your company meets the requirements outlined in the ISO 14001 standard. If it does, your organization will receive the certificate.

ISO 14001 audit: The process
The ISO 14001 audit consists of a number of steps. The auditing process is described below.
Step 1: Pre-check (optional)

Step 2: Review of documentation
In this stage of the ISO 14001 audit, the auditor reviews all documents that contain information about measures taken by your organization to reduce its environmental impact.

Step 3: On-site ISO 14001 audit
The auditor visits your organization and checks the environmental management system on site. Our auditors not only look at the systems and figures, we also pay attention to the employees within your organization. We call this unique approach People Based Auditing​.

Step 4: Receipt of certificate
If you meet the requirements of the ISO 14001 audit, you will receive the ISO 14001 certificate along with the DEKRA seal of approval.

Step 5: Annual audit
After certification, an annual audit follows to see if the regulations are still being put into practice correctly.

Step 6: Recertification
Three years after obtaining certification, you must renew it. You start for recertification at step 3 (On-site ISO 14001 audit) of the process.

Important aspects during the ISO 14001 audit
During an ISO 14001 audit, the auditor checks various aspects of your environmental management system to ensure that it complies with the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard. Some examples of points that may be addressed during an ISO 14001 audit are:
