DEKRA introduces world's first certification program for cybersecurity of electric charging stations

DEKRA introduces the first certification program for cybersecurity of all types of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). This makes it the first company in the world to offer a dedicated certification seal in the field of cybersecurity. DEKRA's comprehensive certification program is based on widely known international standards in the field of cybersecurity, such as ETSI EN 303 645 and IEC 62443. It aims to help manufacturers ensure that their charging devices are prepared for the deployment of security solutions that provide protection against the most important and widespread cyber threats.

Certified products are labeled with the DEKRA Seal. This seal demonstrates that the charging equipment has been tested by DEKRA and meets cybersecurity requirements. The new certification program complements DEKRA's integrated testing and certification services. It ensures the safety, reliability and interoperability of all types of charging equipment.

“Safe charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is critical to promote the acceptance of e-mobility and ensure that more electric vehicles are on the road. We take a 360-degree approach to testing charging stations. We assess key aspects such as safety, electromagnetic compatibility, radio frequency and digital communication. Secure communication between charging points, electric vehicles and the back office is key. Cybersecurity plays an increasing role in this,” said Vincent Roes, vice president and head of Strategic Development at DEKRA's Product Testing service division.
Demonstrating its leadership in the charging station testing market, DEKRA has developed its Cybersecurity Certification Program based on widely known international standards. This certification program offers a comprehensive solution for testing the security of power supply equipment for electric vehicles and includes three levels of security.
“Manufacturers and operators of electric vehicle charging stations need a security baseline in line with current and future laws and regulations. DEKRA's Cybersecurity Certification Program meets this need. It will contribute to a flexible and secure fulfillment of the new reality of mobility, secure products and protection of users' privacy,” said Rubén Lirio, Cybersecurity business line manager in the Product Testing service division at DEKRA.
