Making sure electrical equipment generates safe level of EMF
Electrical equipment always generates electromagnetic fields (EMF). High levels of EMF can be harmful to your health. Although we are all exposed to EMF, the increasing use of technology means that consumers are being exposed to it more and more. This has led to limits being placed on the amount of electromagnetic radiation a product is allowed to emit; this ensures that it is safe to use (EMC directives). If your products are compliant, you will be free to sell them. An EMF lab test is part of EMC testing, which DEKRA has been doing for customers for many years now.
What are EMC directives?
As mentioned above, an EMF lab test is part of
EMC testing
. The EMC directive is a European directive that imposes product requirements on the manufacturers of electronic equipment. For example, the EMC directive specifies the electronic radiation limits that electronic equipment is expected to meet. Besides the radiation a product emits, its immunity is important too. Immunity means the extent to which a product is sensitive to electromagnetic radiation from other products, also called electromagnetic interference. So, medical equipment must be highly immune to radiation from other electronic equipment; this ensures that it always functions as required.
The added value of EMF testing for your product
An EMF test provides certainty about the safety of your product and also about its reliability and sustainability. By complying with international standards, you show that your product has been designed with quality and user safety in mind. This strengthens customer confidence and also reduces the chance of the disruptions and problems that electromagnetic interference can cause.
It also helps you avoid legal risks. Failure to comply with EMF regulations can lead to fines, recalls or even sales bans. A certified product increases your chances of success in the market and gives you a competitive edge. DEKRA is always pleased to use its expertise and efficient testing methods to help you through the process.
DEKRA for EMF testing
If you are planning to market electrical equipment, it will be important for it to meet all relevant requirements. In our
EMC lab
in Arnhem, we do various tests to establish whether your product is compliant with the relevant national and international standards and requirements. One of these tests is an EMF lab test. Products with a radio (smart products) particularly need to be tested for EMF. If you don’t have the EMF knowledge or resources to carry out the EMC tests yourself, we can do this for you. The benefits follow below:
