EMC lab
Electromagnetic compatibility laboratory
In an EMC lab, electromagnetic compatibility laboratory, EMC tests and measurements are conducted. Due to the increasing number of electronic devices, it is essential that equipment does not interfere with other equipment or become interfered with itself. Therefore, in an EMC lab, various measurements and tests are performed to assess whether an electrical device or component is compatible with other electrical devices. With the test reports, you can demonstrate that your devices meet the required EMC standards.
DEKRA has EMC labs at various locations worldwide. By having an
EMC test
conducted in our EMC lab, you ensure that you comply with the applicable EMC requirements, not only within the EU but also beyond. This way, you gain access to different international markets.
What is an EMC lab?
An EMC lab is equipped with advanced measuring instruments and anechoic (echo-free) chambers to conduct an EMC test. This shielded space ensures that tests and measurements are conducted safely, accurately, and in a controlled manner. This filters out other EMC phenomena. Additionally, an EMC lab ensures that the tests and measurements are not affected by external electromagnetic radiation. Therefore, the measurements conducted in an EMC lab are accurate, which is crucial when assessing the electromagnetic compatibility of a device or component.
Testing in an EMC lab
During testing in our electromagnetic compatibility laboratory, the focus is mainly on two aspects: emission (how much electromagnetic energy is emitted by the device) and immunity (the degree to which a device is resistant to external electromagnetic interference).
An EMC lab can also provide assistance during the design phase of a product. By considering EMC early on, potential problems can be resolved sooner. It is often more difficult to solve such issues later in the process. On top of that, it will become more costly. DEKRA's experts work with you throughout this process and can provide advice on the design of your device or component.
EMC test facilities & DEKRA
An EMC lab is a crucial element in conducting reliable EMC tests. We have various EMC chambers worldwide. These chambers come in different sizes and are therefore suitable for diverse devices and components. This allows us to test a wide variety of products, including batteries, hearing aids, lighting products, plugs, sockets, lighting, charging stations, household products, medical equipment, e-bikes, and scooters. In Arnhem, we have an Open Area Test Site. This space is suitable for testing large electric vehicles.
Different sizes of EMC chambers
Did you know that we have EMC chambers of various sizes? You can access EMC chambers up to 10 meters at different locations worldwide. In Arnhem, we opened an Open Area Test Site in 2022 to test large electric vehicles.
Comprehensive and flexible testing
We offer comprehensive type approvals and flexible, independent EMC testing methods tailored to your needs. Our tests include on-site tests, tests at your location, and pre-compliance tests.
EMC in DEKRA’s global network
EMC testing is everywhere. In DEKRA's global network, you will find EMC test facilities in the Netherlands (1), Spain (1), the United States (1), China (4), and Taiwan (2).
