Cooperating to ensure the safety and effectiveness of multi-source DC applications
New collaboration DEKRA and Current/OS Foundation
Safeguarding safety and effectiveness
We are pleased to announce that DEKRA has become a member of the Current/OS Foundation, marking the start of a collaboration aimed at enhancing the safety and effectiveness of multi-source DC applications.
The
Current/OS Foundation
is at the forefront of championing the adoption, development, and proliferation of an open standard system for Direct Current (DC) distribution. In doing so, the foundation aims to improve the resilience, sustainability, and safety of energy distribution. Notably, the Current/OS Foundation provides free access to intelectual property (IP) under non-discriminatory terms to a broad spectrum of stakeholders within the electrical market. This inclusive approach encompasses sources and loads manufacturers, design consultants and integrators, as well as academics, research centers, users, and service providers.
The Current/OS Set of Rules
As our society becomes increasingly reliant on electricity, the need for a resilient electrical grid capable of managing fluctuations in supply and demand is more critical than ever. In response to this growing necessity, the foundation envisions a future where a diverse array of electrical sources is integrated seamlessly into our daily lives, both where we live and work. The Current/OS Set of Rules meticulously outlines the framework for DC (direct current) microgrids, characterized by their native opportunistic behavior—automatically adjusting to the availability of power. This innovative approach empowers us to meet the ambitious energy transition goals set by our society. Furthermore, this Set of Rules is openly accessible to any product manufacturer, paving the way for widespread adoption and implementation.
'Ensure safety, security and sustainability'
Bram Holtus, CEO of DEKRA Certification B.V., enthusiastically reacts to the collaboration: "Cooperating to ensure the safety and effectiveness of multi-source DC applications aligns well with DEKRA’s mission to ensure the safety, security and sustainability of the technologies people use on a daily basis. Specifically, when it leads to achieving the energy transition goals that we as a society have set."
Partners from all over the world
The Current/OS Foundation is cultivating an ecosystem of manufacturers producing compatible products, having already attracted a diverse membership from across the globe. Among its members are industry leaders such as Schneider Electric, DC Systems, UL Solutions, ABB, Fuji Electric, and Eaton, to highlight a few. "We are extremely pleased to be strengthening our collaboration with DEKRA," expressed the Current/OS Foundation.
