Z.E. READY: what does that mean?
If you drive an electric vehicle, you want to be able to hook up to a charging station and not worry about whether it’s the right one. How can this be achieved for electric vehicle owners throughout the world? Standards are an important part of the answer to this question because they can be used to promote the interoperability of charging stations. A wide range of standards are in place, even for specific car brands. One of these is the Z.E. READY charging certification, which Renault has developed to benefit the owners of its electric vehicles. This blog tells you what Z.E. READY entails and how the certification process works.
What is Z.E. READY?
Z.E. is the label that Renault has been using on its all-electric cars since 2012; it stands for Zero Emission. The object of Z.E. READY is to guarantee the compatibility of Renault Z.E. cars with
charging stations.
As a manufacturer, you may only use this label if your products meet a number of Renault criteria. There are 52 in total: 41 relating to charging stations and 11 to their installation. This means that Z.E. READY applies to the installers of charging stations too. With just several exceptions, they must have obtained certification to show they meet Renault’s criteria. LCIE Bureau Veritas, a French certification body responsible for the conformity assessment of products, regulates Z.E. READY certification.
